More than 50 primary school pupils were awarded scholarships by Kellogg Tolaram LFTZ Enterprise, makers of leading cereal brand – Kellogg’s across three states in Nigeria.
According to Punch Newspapers, the beneficiaries were selected after performing well in a recent essay competition organised by the company tagged “Kellogg’s Superstars” and designed to sharpen their writing skills.
The contest, which began in March 2019, saw around 1.8 million pupils from about 12,000 schools across Rivers, Lagos and Oyo states participating and displaying their creativity through writing. Each of the 50 pupils, who made the final cut, will receive N100,000 from Kellogg to support their academics.
Speaking on the initiative, Marketing Manager of Kellogg’s, Mr Darlington Igabali, said that the move was in line with the organisation’s desire to contribute to the growth of education in the country.
He said, “Kellogg’s Superstars programme follows a holistic developmental approach, which begins with making sure children have the best start to their day through quality food which Kellogg’s cereal represents.
“The initiative also encourages pupils to identify and improve on their inherent academic skills in the area of writing.”
Also commenting on the initiative, Public Relations Manager, Tolaram Group, Mrs Omotayo Azeez- Abiodun, said that Kellogg is currently visiting different schools to award the outstanding pupils.
She said, “Beyond the essay contest, Kellogg has been working on providing the right start for our children.
“We have invested in building educational infrastructures; reading and literacy initiative; scholarships; business-education partnerships and other local needs towards ensuring a brighter future for Nigerian children.”
